Guo Saishan Professor, Chief Physician

　　Doctoral and Graduate Tutor

　　A Chinese medicine doctor of national fame

　　Professor Guo Saishan, who was born in Putian, Fujian in October 1938, is a member of the Communist Party of China, chief physician and doctoral tutor of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and director of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Chinese Medicine Teaching and Research Office (1991-2002). In 1998, he organized the establishement of the Professional Committee for Diabetes Care within the Beijing Association of Integrating of Traditional and Western Medicine and served as its chairman. As one of the instructors for inheritance of academic experience included in the third batch of list of Senior Chinese Medicine Experts with National Fame, he is entitled to "Special Government Allowance" granted by the State Council. During 1996-1997, he served as a visiting professor at the Institute of Chinese Medicine, University of Texas, San Antonio. Professor Guo Saishan has been engaged in clinical practice, scientific research, teaching and management of integrative medicine for more than 50 years, during which he has always been adhered to the PUMCH spirit of "Preciseness, Refinement, Diligence and Dedication" and made outstanding achievements, including the "National Advanced Individual of Health Care" in 2005, the "National Outstanding Contribution in TCM Inheritance Award" in 2006, "National Advanced Doctor's Office" in 2009 (through the doctor's office established under his name), the PUMCH "Outstanding Contribution Award" in 2010, the title of "National Famous TCM Doctor" in June 2017 and the "Chinese Medicine Contribution Award" during the 2017 event of "Respect for Life • 2017 Doctor of Honor Selection".

　　Diabetes and related chronic complications, intractable medical diseases, gynecological diseases, sleep disorders, infertility, treatment after tumor surgery and during chemoradiotherapy.

Achievement

　　Obtained the title of "National Famous TCM Doctor" in June 2017.

　　Won the PUMCH "Outstanding Contribution Award" in 1978.

　　In 1997, he won the second prize in the Appraisal of Teaching Achievements in Beijing Ordinary Colleges and Universities with his work "An Attempt to Reform Chinese Medicine Teaching in Western Medical Colleges and Universities".

　　In 2001, he won the "Award for Contribution in Integrating Chinese and Western Medicine" issued by the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine.

　　In 2003, he won the third prize in the selection of Beijing Science and Technology Achievements with his work "Study on Jinmaitong in Treating Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy".

　　In 2005, he won the third prize in the selection of Beijing Science and Technology Achievements with his work "Study on Diabetes Blood Stasis Syndrome and Treating Diabetes and Vascular Diseases by Promoting Blood Circulation and Removing Blood Stasis";

　　In 2005, he was granted the Third Prize of Science and Technology by the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine for his work "Clinical and Experimental Research on the Treatment of Diabetes with Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine";

　　Won the "National Outstanding Contribution in TCM Inheritance Award" in 2006,

　　In 2006, he won the first "National Outstanding Contribution in TCM Inheritance Award" from the China Association of Chinese Medicine;

　　In 2009, he was granted the 2nd Prize of Science and Technology by the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine for his work "Clinical and Experimental Study on Treatment of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy with Bushen Huoxue Wenjing Therapies";

　　In 2009, he won the scientific and technological achievement award of China Association of Chinese Medicine with his work "Master Zhu Chenyu's Academic Experience in Treating Diabetes and Related Inheritance and Development".
